Kick-start your career with an Apprenticeship in the Mines!
Skillset alongside Peabody are seeking applications for their 2026 Apprenticeship Intake.
These entry-level roles, are a great opportunity to gain hands on experience, learn from industry experts and earn whilst completing your Apprenticeship. These roles are to commence in January 2026.
Based at Wilpinjong Mine, approximately 50KM North of Mudgee in the Western Coalfields of NSW, you will be required to complete the apprenticeship over a 4-year period.
The successful candidates will receive a combination of formal training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and gain practical on-the-job and off-the-job experience alongside highly skilled tradespeople.
These qualifications are recognised on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List. The successful candidates may be eligible for the Australian Apprentice Training Support Payment of up to $5000 over the first 2 years of the qualification.
Multiple apprenticeship positions will be offered, commencing late January 2026:
- Mobile Fitter Apprenticeship, Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology
- Boilermaker Apprenticeship, Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication Trade)
- Automotive Electrical Apprenticeship, Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology
Overview of the roles
Mobile Plant: Mobile Plant Technicians play a vital role in the maintenance, servicing, and repair of diverse mobile machinery on-site such as trucks and heavy earthmoving equipment.
Engineering Fabrication: Welders join metals using a variety of techniques and processes, and work to construct new structures out of metal. They also undertake repairs and modifications to existing structures, equipment, and machinery, and are often required to work in confined spaces.
Automotive Electrical: Automotive Electrical Technicians specialise in the maintenance, servicing, and repair of electrical systems in a variety of vehicles, both fixed and mobile machinery.
About you
- Have a genuine interest in the mining industry and a passion for the trade.
- Possess skills such as problem-solving, adaptability, and attention to detail.
- Are willing to undergo a Coal Mine Workers Order 43 Medical.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of Work, Health, and Safety.
- Are at least 18 years old at the commencement of the apprenticeship, late January 2026.
- Minimum Provision 1 drivers’ licence with reliable transport at commencement of the apprenticeship, January 2026.

- Candidates who successfully progress to Client interview stage must be available for Face-to-Face interviews at Wilpinjong Mine week commencing 10th November 2025.
- Candidates who successfully progress to medical stage must be available to attend the medical in Mudgee, week commencing 24th November 2025.
- Candidates who successfully gained an Apprenticeship must be available to commence on-site at Wilpinjong Mine on 19th January 2026.
