Welcome to Skillset Youth Connect, a free service dedicated to helping young people plan, set, and achieve their education, training, and career goals. Our experienced consultants provide personalised guidance and support to help you build the future you envision.
We work closely with schools, TAFE NSW, and community service organisations to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting young people in reaching their full potential.
Skillset Youth Connect is part of the Get Back in the Game program, funded by the Department of Education. Through our programs. Get in the Game (GIG) and Back in the Game (BIG) we provide tailored career advice, training opportunities, and mentoring to help young people succeed.
Skillset - Get in the Game (GIG)
Take the next step towards your future with GIG! This program provides:
- Personalised career advice and a tailored career plan.
- Access to local training to develop the skills you need.
- Connections with employers for work experience and paid job opportunities.
- Ongoing support from our consultants to identify your strengths and skills.
GIG Eligibility
Who can we help?
To be eligible for GIG, you must:
- Be 15 to 21 years old.
- Live in the Central West, Orana, or Far West regions.
- Not be currently enrolled in school, training, or post-school education (e.g., TAFE).
- Not be working more than 8 hours per week.
- Not be engaged with an Employment Service Provider or another youth transition support program.
If previously enrolled in school, you must either:
- Not have attended school for at least three months, OR
- Hold a 42-day or 99-day attendance exemption at the time of enrolment.
GIG is designed to support young people who are not in education, training, or full-time employment, giving them the skills and opportunities to build a successful future.
Skillset - Back in the Game (BIG)
Back in the Game (BIG) is a referral-based service offering support and mentoring to young people who are disengaged or disconnected from school. It aims to help them re-engage with education, training, or employment.
What BIG Provides:
- Identifying barriers to learning.
- Developing a career or training plan.
- Job and training-readiness support (e.g., applying for a tax file number, driver’s licence, or writing a resume).
- Assistance in accessing training and work experience.
- Mentoring and help with purchasing basic work or study equipment.
BIG Eligibility
Who can we help?
To be eligible for BIG, you must:
- Be 15 to 19 years old.
- Be a student enrolled in, and referred by, a participating Educational Pathways Program school.
- Not be a current, active participant in any other youth transition support program.
Participating Schools:
Students must be enrolled in and referred by one of the following schools:

- Broken Hill High School
- Collarenebri Central School
- Coomealla High School
- Coonamble High School
- Gilgandra High School
- Goodooga Central School
- Lightning Ridge Central School
- Menindee Central School
- Nyngan High School
- Walgett Community College – High School
