BY Skillset 01 Mar, 2024

We are pleased to announce and congratulate our Skillset Apprentice, Trainee and Host of the Month winners recognised amongst our Mudgee region Apprentices, Trainees and Hosts. These awards celebrate the accomplishments, dedication, and contributions within the vocational and skills development sector.

Host of the Month: Mid-Western Regional Council

Mid-Western Regional Council has been recognised as Host of the Month for creating a positive learning environment and making substantial contributions to skills development.

Skillset Senior Workforce Consultant, Nicole Lees, nominated Mid-Western Regional Council for this award in recognition of a host employer who goes above and beyond in creating a positive learning environment, making substantial contributions to the growth and skills development of individuals within our regional communities.

Nicole said, “Congratulations to Mid-Western Regional Council for being awarded the Host of the Month title for January 2024. Their continued support over the last seven years has been outstanding, having placed over 13 apprentices and trainees across multiple business units. Council’s commitment to educating Mudgee locals has truly made a positive impact. Here’s to celebrating their dedication and excellence as a standout host in our community.”

Sharna Ross, HR Manager accepted the award on behalf of Mid-Western Regional Council.

Apprentice of the Month: Tom Sebelic

Congratulations to Tom for earning the title of Apprentice of the Month for his impressive performance during his apprenticeship with Mudgee Plaster Man.

Nicole said, “I’d like to commend Tom for completing his Certificate III in Wall & Ceiling Lining in under three years. From the start, Tom has been a very fast learner willing to try anything. He has proven to be honest, reliable, trust-worthy, and has always remained punctual throughout his employment with Mudgee Plaster Man. He has developed his skills at an extraordinary pace. His attention to detail and ability to problem-solve make Tom a valuable team member. His dedication to the company is admirable, taking on all stresses that come with it, such as timeframes and errors, as if it’s his own. His ability to organise a job to have a great flow and good pace is fantastic. He was acting like a leading hand from year one, taking charge. His skills in the trade are great for the time he has been in his apprenticeship. His ability to run boxes and hand setting are worlds above for the time in the trade, which shows the dedication and love for this trade. Tom has a positive attitude in every task that I assigned to him. He is willing to support his co-workers, providing any feedback. His leadership skills are fantastic and take charge without any prompting. He can be left to any task without needing support from myself or others and is very trustworthy. His general enthusiasm for the trade is what I admire, and he will go far in his career.”

Tom’s host employer, Wayde also offered these kind words, “I just want to say congratulations Tom! Your help over the years is the reason why the business has been able to grow as well as it has. I always knew from the first time we bought tools for yourself, how excited you were that this is the trade for you. Always strive to perfect your skills and never stop trying to be better.”

Trainee of the Month: Thomas Hollow

Thomas Hollow is recognised as Trainee of the Month for his dedication to his warehousing traineeship he is completing at Peabody’s Wilpinjong Mine.

Nicole said, “Tom’s key work achievements include the completion of his Certificate III in less than 12 months. Throughout his training, Tom has developed key skills such as reliability, communication, punctuation, safety awareness, and improving data accuracy, along with forklift operation.

One notable way Tom has positively impacted the host workplace is through his fresh and youthful insight. As a Trainee, he brings honesty to the team by fearlessly asking questions, no matter how basic they may seem.

Host employer feedback echoes this positive impact, emphasising Tom’s valuable contribution to the team and acknowledging his inquisitive approach. Well done, Tom, on this well-deserved recognition as Trainee of the Month.”

Congratulations to Tom Sebelic, Thomas Hollow and Mid-Western Regional Council for being recognised for these awards.
