Skillset has been selected to deliver a new Group Training Organisation (GTO) program that will help local apprentices and trainees access employment opportunities created through the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).

Funded through a $1.5 million investment by the NSW Government and delivered in partnership with EnergyCo and the NSW Department of Education, the program will support the development of a skilled local workforce to meet the growing demand for renewable energy jobs across the region.

The Central-West Orana REZ is expected to create significant employment opportunities during both construction and ongoing operations. Through the Group Training Organisation model, Skillset will employ apprentices and trainees and place them with host employers working on renewable energy projects and related industries.

Importantly, the model allows apprentices and trainees to continue their training across multiple host employers if individual projects come to an end before their qualification is completed. This approach provides greater certainty for both employers and learners while helping to build a sustainable workforce for the renewable energy sector.

As a long-standing regional not-for-profit organisation, Skillset is committed to creating pathways into meaningful employment and supporting businesses to develop skilled workforces. The organisation has extensive experience delivering apprenticeship and traineeship programs throughout regional New South Wales and is excited to contribute to the workforce development outcomes of the Central-West Orana REZ.

The program is now open to expressions of interest from prospective host employers and job seekers seeking pathways into renewable energy and related industries.
