Overcoming Study Isolation Just Got a Whole Lot Easier

Imagine trying to complete your training when reliable internet is difficult to access, public transport is limited, your nearest study support service is hours away and most of your learning happens on your own.

For many young people in regional NSW, that’s the reality.

While vocational education and training can open the door to exciting employment opportunities, completing a course isn’t always easy. Young people can face challenges ranging from geographic isolation and transport barriers to limited access to technology, study space and personalised support.

That’s why we’re excited to share that Skillset has secured funding through the NSW Government Department of Education Get Back in the Game (GBIG) Flexible Hubs Grant.

The funding will enable us to establish a network of Learning Hubs designed specifically to help young people stay engaged in training and achieve successful outcomes.

What are the Learning Hubs?

The new Learning Hubs will operate from Skillset locations in Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo, complemented by an online hub that can support participants from right across our region.

Participants will be able to access:

  • Dedicated study spaces
  • Technology and internet access
  • One-on-one support
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Structured learning environments
  • Additional motivation and encouragement throughout their training journey

The goal is simple: help young people overcome barriers that can prevent them from completing their studies.

Supporting Young People to Succeed

The Flexible Hubs will build on Skillset’s existing delivery of Get Back in the Game, through their Youth Connect program, providing additional support focused on retention, engagement and successful completion of training.

Every participant’s situation is different. Some may need help staying motivated, others may need access to technology or simply a place where they can focus on their studies and connect with someone who understands what they’re working towards.

These Learning Hubs are designed to provide exactly that.

We’re Looking for the Right Person

To help bring this exciting initiative to life, we’re currently recruiting Motivation Coaches.

This role will work directly with young people, helping them stay connected, overcome challenges and continue progressing towards training and employment goals.

If you’re passionate about supporting young people and making a real difference in regional communities, we’d love to hear from you.
