Connecting future GPs with regional NSW

In August, The Welcome Experience Local Connector Rahni Darcy attended the RACGP Rural Showcase in Parramatta, an event that brought together GP registrars, rural general practices, and health organisations from across NSW.

The Showcase connects metro-based and composite registrars with practices in areas of workforce need, while highlighting the career opportunities and rewards of working in rural communities.

For The Welcome Experience team, it was a valuable opportunity to connect with future GPs and introduce the personalised support available should they choose to pursue a career in regional NSW. And importantly, share how wonderful the Central West is.

This includes, but is not limited to, finding a home and navigating schools and childcare, partner employment, community connections and local knowledge. Local Connectors can help make the transition easier for essential workers and their families.

Jo Sayer, Manager Rural Pathway and Rural Generalist Training, said the RACGP Australian General Practice Training Program encourages GP registrars to consider The Welcome Experience.

“Moving to a new community can be daunting, particularly in more remote locations, and assistance like this makes the transition easier for registrars and their families.”

Building these important connections early helps future GPs see not only the career opportunities available in regional NSW, but also the support available to help them feel at home when they arrive.
