A few years ago, I felt very stuck in life. I knew I wanted more for myself, but I didn’t know where to start. That’s when I discovered Skillset and everything started to change for me.

My first experience with Skillset was through work experience at Clancy Motors in Bathurst. Throughout the whole process, I was supported by Cara from Skillset, who guided me and made sure I felt comfortable every step of the way. Through Work Ready workshops, Cara helped me build essential skills such as creating a resume, applying for jobs, and gaining valuable work experience.

About a year later, I started at Skillset Senior College, where I continued my education and completed Year 10 and for the first time, I realised that school isn’t really all bad.

Throughout Year 10, I took part in many activities that helped me grow, including:

Completing my white card at Vetro

Explored Museums

Learned to cook

Watched my grades go up tremendously

Exercising at PCYC

Meeting some new and amazing people

And graduated my year 10 formal

I chose Skillset Senior College because I needed a place where I could learn at my own pace and feel genuinely supported. Public school didn’t suit me. I needed an environment that focused on real life skills and personal growth. From the day I arrived, the people at Skillset made me feel seen and heard. The teachers took the time to understand me and how I learn, and for the first time, I felt like I could truly be myself at school.

Through Skillset, I completed some work experience at the corporate office, where I had the opportunity to work in a real workplace environment. I learned how to mange responsibilities and communicate professionally whilst also becoming more comfortable and asking questions

Before my time at Skillset, I had no idea what I wanted to do. Now, I have a clear direction. My work experience helped me discover what I enjoy and gave me the confidence to pursue my goals.

Since then, I have been offered a School-Based Traineeship with Skillset, where I am completing a Certificate III in Business, continuing to build my skills and take the next step in my career journey.

Skillset has been life changing for me. They have given me endless opportunities, support, role models, and confidence to move forward. I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m very grateful to everyone who has helped me get here.

I’m glad I believed in myself, chose a different path, and found Skillset.
