Vinnie moved to Australia with her father at age 12 from Sri Lanka. With her family still overseas, she relied on local community support to navigate life in a new country.

Introduced to Skillset Youth Connect by Bathurst High School, Vinnie received career planning advice and guidance during a critical transition after completing her Higher School Certificate. Through this process, she discovered her passion for working with children and enrolled in a Certificate III in Children’s Services. Skillset Youth Connect also connected her with a Multicultural Service Officer to ensure she had the specialist support needed to succeed.

Living in Perthville presented another challenge: transportation. To attend TAFE and complete work placements at a local childcare center, Vinnie needed her motorbike license. Today, she proudly owns a scooter and counts conquering the dreaded roundabout on her way to TAFE as one of her proudest moments.

Now progressing through her Certificate III, Vinnie has become a standout student. Her teacher shared glowing feedback, saying, “Vinnie is a very passionate student who always gives her best. She is eager to participate in discussions and has built strong relationships with classmates and teachers.”

Vinnie recently completed her first TAFE work placement at a local childcare center, where her vibrant personality and enthusiasm won over the children. She enjoyed the experience so much that she contacted the center afterward to volunteer during the holidays.

Anyone who meets Vinnie is drawn to her zest for life and natural charisma. Skillset Youth Connect is proud to have partnered with community organisations and members to support Vinnie, who remains deeply grateful for every opportunity.
