Skillset has launched a free support service, Skillset Workforce Mentor Plus, for apprentices and trainees in the Construction and Mining industries across the New England and Orana regions of NSW.

The Australian Government has recognised Skillset’s expertise and experience in providing specialist support to apprentices and trainees for over 36 years by selecting them to deliver the ISMAA service. The Industry Specialist Mentoring for Australian Apprentices program is funded by the Australian Government and provides intensive support for over 40,000 Australian Apprentices in the first two years of their training in a wide range of industries undergoing structural change.

The support provided to Australian Apprentices and Trainees will help address particular career and skills development concerns related to their specific industry and situation. Through the ISMAA program, Skillset Workforce Mentor Plus will provide regular one on one contact with highly skilled mentors.
Skillset Workforce Program Manager Ben Ruddy says the new service will provide valuable support to apprentices and trainees across the New England and Orana areas. “Only sixty per cent of apprentices and trainees get through that danger period of non-completion in their first couple of years. This will be good for small businesses and larger businesses to increase retention rates. It’s an exciting opportunity for people in these industries to join a well-rounded support network. The program will provide support and assistance on a case-by-case basis depending on what the individual needs.”

The Skillset Workforce Mentor Plus program is now available to 1st and 2nd-year apprentices in the New England and Orana Regions. For more information about Skillset Workforce Mentor Plus call 0427 751 816 or visit skillset.com.au/mentor-plus.

Industry Specialist Mentoring for Australian Apprentices (ISMAA) is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training.
