About the role

Skillset in conjunction with Warrumbungle Shire Council are seeking applications for their new Childcare Trainee. The successful candidate will be primarily based at Council’s Yuluwirri Kids Preschool and Long Day Care Centre and will complete a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care over a twelve-month period.

This entry-level opportunity is suited to Indigenous Identified candidates with a passion for Early Childhood Education.

  • A full time, twelve-month placement that will provide formal on the job training
  • You will be allocated a dedicated Skillset Consultant who will support you throughout your Traineeship
  • At the successful completion of the role you will graduate with a nationally recognised qualification



  • Learn the foundations and content to develop skills and knowledge used in the Early Childhood industry
  • Follow daily routines
  • Adhere to and carry out Health and Safety procedures including cleaning, washing and food preparation
  • Assist Educators with organising, conducting and supervising daily activities
  • Follow Instructions from qualified Educators
  • Complete all related theory work and attend classes associated with the Traineeship


  • Be of Aboriginal and / Torres Strait Islander descent; and
  • Identify as Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
  • Be accepted as an Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander by the local Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander community
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain prior to commencing
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop own skills and knowledge
  • Committed to the study component of the Traineeship
  • Keen interest the Early Childhood Services industry
  • High level of Health and Safety awareness
  • Current Driver's Licence
  • The successful candidate will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical and criminal history check prior to commencing

  • The first stage of assessment is an online entrance exam that will be emailed to you automatically when you apply. Individuals who do not complete the online entrance exam within the specified time frame will be unable to progress to the next stage.

  • Your cover letter must address the selection criteria and tell us why you are interested in the traineeship/apprenticeship. We would also love to hear about any experience or projects you have been involved in that are related to the trade.
