About the role

Skillset in conjunction with the Dubbo Regional Council are currently seeking applications for passionate individuals to commence their Civil Construction Apprenticeship in early January 2022. Excitingly, we have five fantastic opportunities available in the Dubbo and Wellington depot.

Based in the Infrastructure team at the Dubbo Regional Council, you will compete a Certificate III in Civil Construction over a 36-month period through a combination of formal training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and gain practical on-the-job experience alongside highly skilled tradespeople.

This entry-level opportunity is suited to applicants who are eager to make a difference in the local community, highly-motivated, enjoy working outdoors in a hands on role and are keen to pursue a career in the Civil Construction industry.


  • Excellent career opportunity to join Dubbo Regional Council and gain invaluable experience within the Civil Construction industry
  • A full time, 3-year placement that will provide formal on the job training
  • You will be allocated a dedicated Skillset Consultant who will support you throughout your Apprenticeship  
  • At the successful completion of the role you will graduate with a nationally recognised qualification


  • Learn the foundations and content to develop skills and knowledge required in the Civil Construction industry
  • Assist the team in road construction and road maintenance from pothole repairs, kerbs, guttering, concreting and drainage pipes and storm water
  • Work with the team to ensure beatification of the central business district (CBD)
  • Undertake work within heavy traffic environments by using power tools, hand tools and other equipment as required, to complete road maintenance and construction projects
  • Carry out a variety of manual labour and small plant operation tasks associated with the delivery of civil construction and maintenance activities
  • Adhere to Work Place Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Complete all related course work associated with the Apprenticeship


  • Hold a current Driver's Licence or Provisional Licence
  • Hold a current White Card or willing to obtain before start date
  • Willingness to undertake a Pre-Employment Medical
  • Willing to undertake a Police Check prior to commencement
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a diverse team, have great communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with people
  • Have the ability to prioritise workloads, have time management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Show commitment to the study component of the Apprenticeship

  • The first stage of assessment is an online entrance exam that will be emailed to you automatically when you apply. Individuals who do not complete the online entrance exam within the specified time frame will be unable to progress to the next stage. 
  • Only applications with a cover letter and up-to-date resume will be considered
  • Your cover letter must address the selection criteria and tell us why you are interested in the traineeship/apprenticeship. We would also love to hear about any experience or projects you have been involved in that are related to the trade.
  • Applicants must be able to attend interviews in Dubbo NSW
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate work rights in Australia
