What is Career Development?

Your career is a journey, not a destination. It’s never too late to expand your skills and transition to new industries and roles.

Career development isn’t achieved overnight, it’s something you work on throughout your entire working life with a variety of pathway options you could follow.

Having a career development plan will help you reflect on your ambitions and understand what it takes to make them happen, as well as having the tools to deal with career challenges and opportunities that you will encounter throughout your life.

Why is Career Planning Important?

Career planning is an important, but often overlooked part of your working life. It’s a process that helps you map out not just your goals, but the steps, skills and even people that are required to help you get there. Career planning should occur at all stages of your career, no matter what industry you’re in, or the role you have.

Building resilient communities through local partnerships

Skillset CareerLink Central West is a community based, regional career development service partnering with Regional Development Australia Central West and the eleven local councils of the Central West. It is funded by the Australian Government to provide free, accessible, quality careers information and advice tailored to the local labour market, to help residents make informed career decisions. CareerLink will also support local businesses with a skilled and informed workforce they need to grow and thrive into the future.

This program received grant funding from the Australian Government’s National Careers Institute.

Australia Skillset would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the traditional custodians of the lands on which we work.
We are honoured to be on the ancestral lands of those whose cultures are among the oldest living cultures in human history. We pay respect to the Elders, past, present and to the younger generation of the community who will be the future leaders in years to come.
