There are many reduced fee or fee free courses available online and these courses cover a range of topics. In this article, we explore some of the best online course providers offering reduced fee or fee free courses at the moment.

FutureLearn

This Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) learning platform was established in 2012 and offers online courses and degrees from universities and specialist organisations all over the world. There are literally hundreds of courses across an array of subjects on offer including Healthcare & Medicine, Business & Management, IT & Computer Science, Science, Engineering & Maths and many, many more. You can undertake courses for free with FutureLearn if you complete them within a specific timeframe. There is also the option of paying a fee to have more time to finish the course and to obtain the certificate.

Coursera

This well-known American MOOC provider works with universities and world-leading companies across the globe to deliver online courses, hands-on projects, certificate programs, and stackable credentials across an enormous range of subjects. Courses can be accessed using a computer or via an app on your mobile phone which is available using Android or iOS – this means you can take your learning with you wherever you go! There are a huge amount of free courses on offer. For these courses, you have the option of paying for the course certificate or undertaking the course without it. Coursera also offers financial aid via an application for those students who cannot afford course fees.

edX

edX is another MOOC provider and was established in 2012 by Harvard and MIT universities in the United States. It offers more than 3,000 courses from 160 member universities across a diverse range of different subjects including Architecture, Data Analysis & Statistics, Food & Nutrition, Energy & Earth Sciences, Languages, Environmental Studies, Project Management, Engineering, Marketing and much more. Students have the option of taking the course for free within a specific period of time or can obtain the certificate and have course assignments and examinations graded for a fee.

LinkedIn Learning 

This MOOC provider is owned by the Linkedin platform and offers more than 16,000 business, creative, and technology courses. These courses can be accessed via your computer or phone and are delivered via video and other content. Linkedin Learning uses a subscription which means you can trial the service for free and then if you like it, sign up for a monthly or annual fee to access the courses on offer. To use Linkedin Learning, you must have, or are required to sign up to, a Linkedin account – which is free!

TAFE NSW Fee-free online courses 

TAFE NSW is currently offering a number of fee-free courses for a limited time as part of the NSW Government’s response to the covid-19 pandemic. These courses cover a range of subjects including, but not limited to Hairdressing, Beauty, Drones in Agriculture, Digital Security, Accounting, Medical Administration and Real Estate. The courses are delivered via self-paced online or teacher-led virtual classrooms and can offer a pathway into other TAFE courses. Access to each course is subject to specific eligibility requirements and enrolment numbers are limited, so get in quick!
