Introducing our longest serving Skillset Green Army Team Supervisor, Damon Lane.
Damon started out with Skillset in Round 1 of the Green Army back in 2015 in our Eurobodalla Coastal team. He is still working with Green Army currently recruiting for another Eurobodalla project which will improve the condition of native vegetation in the 110km stretch of Eurobodalla coastal reserves by removing weeds, planting native vegetation and construction of tracks and erosion control works.
Damon’s contribution was recognized with a Green Army Team Supervisor Award at the 2016 Skillset Awards.
We sat down with Damon, to find our just what he thought about his Green Army experience:
“The thing I enjoy most about the Green Army is watching the participants grow in confidence and increase their skills. It’s always great to see a bunch of individuals grow into a cohesive team over the duration of the program, and to hear them all talking and laughing together is very rewarding.
The Green Army has greatly improved my personnel management and training skills. To work out the best way to teach individuals from varied backgrounds is a skill that has developed greatly over my time with the Green Army.
My advice to participants is as varied as the participants themselves and depends on individual goals, skills and personalities. I might encourage further studies, moving to somewhere with more work opportunities or the very common get your license. It doesn’t all end after the six months either. I’ll often get calls from previous participants asking my advice or if I will referee them them for job applications. I also let them know when job opportunities are available.”
Skillset would sincerely like to thank Damon for all of his hard work over the last few years and for his passion and dedication to all of his participants and his work!
Well done Damon!
