Local not-for-profit community based organisation, Skillset has pledged 50% ($3250) of the current Pit Complex fees for the next three years fulfilling Bathurst East Rotary’s needs to continue to run the award winning RYDA, Rotary Youth Driver Awareness program in Bathurst again.

RYDA is coordinated locally by Rotary Clubs across Australia and New Zealand in partnership with Road Safety Education Ltd, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the reduction of road accidents and serious trauma resulting from road accidents involving young inexperienced drivers. It delivers practical road safety information targeting ‘attitude and awareness’ of young drivers and passengers and is designed to help stop the tragic loss of young people in road crashes. More than 5000 Year 11 students from across the Bathurst region have taken part in RYDA since its inception 10 years ago.Last year RYDA was recognised nationally winning an Excellence in Road Safety Education Award, and the Bathurst program won the Toyota Community Supporting Excellence Award for its ongoing contribution to young driver safety.

Skillset CEO Craig Randazzo said supporting RYDA was an easy decision for the organisation “Skillset not only runs Skillset Senior College here in Bathurst, but we are also the largest employer of young people right across the region through our Skillset Workforce and Environment programs. Driving is the most dangerous thing most young people will ever do, and we need to help keep our kids safe on the roads. The RYDA program is of immense value to the young people of our community, We understand that the program is well subscribed, with current school numbers for 2018 sessions in excess of 700 across all local and district schools. Bathurst East Rotary Club make an enormous contribution with the RYDA program and we are delighted to help support this important work they do with this donation.”

RYDA Program Co-ordinator Graeme Bright said the contribution from Skillset is a positive outcome for students of Bathurst and surrounding areas, “It is excellent to see a local organisation like Skillset provide Bathurst students with this wonderful support. All of the local Rotary Clubs greatly appreciate the support that has been given. This will be a fantastic benefit for all students involved as we will be able to keep the costs at a minimum while letting a greater number of students be involved.

RYDA will run in Bathurst from May 7th – 11th. For more information on RYDA go to http://www.rse.org.au/programs/ryda/
