Why a Skillset Safer Driver Course is a good thing…
We know that living in regional Australia without a licence can be tough. Public transport is limited, taxis are way too expensive and bike riding is fun…sometimes. Without a licence, you also limit your job opportunities.
A Skillset Safer Driver Course can help you get your driver’s licence so you can go where you want when you want …and get there safely. Imagine where you could go?
You also earn 20 logbook hours.
Where can I do a course?
Courses run in Bathurst, Orange, Cowra, Dubbo, Parkes and Mudgee.
You’ll complete two modules as part of our Safer Driver Course.
- Module 1 includes a three hour facilitated group discussion to build awareness of risks, safe driving behaviours and decisions.
- Module 2 is more practically based and includes a two-hour in-vehicle coaching session. You are partnered with another student and you will each spend one hour behind the wheel.
Please note that depending on class numbers and delivery location Module 2 MAY be conducted at a different date to Module 1. Limited places are available on the afternoon of the Module 1 session. Preference for afternoon sessions will be given to students travelling long distances to access the course.
Who is eligible for the course?
- You are eligible to undertake the Safer Driver Course if you:
- hold a current learner licence;
- are aged under 25 years;
- have completed a minimum of 50 hours driving experience (i.e actual on-road hours, not including 3 for 1 credits) as evidenced in their log book. 10 of these hours must be night driving hours

The course cost is $140 per person.

The Disadvantaged Learner Initiative is a program that offers 1000 subsidised Safer Drivers Course places per year to assist disadvantaged young learner drivers to access the course.
The key objective is to enable young learner drivers from disadvantaged backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities with limited financial means to access the course by providing a course fee exemption.
